Improvements to the A120 long overdue

The A120 is one of the most important economic corridors in the country.  It links a major sea port to a major airport and connects businesses and commuters to trade and employment opportunities, yet in places it is little more than a country lane.  Congestion and delays cost the economy an estimated £1.3 billion and up to 13,000 jobs.

Modernisation and improvements are long overdue, so I joined local businesses, district and county councillors to discuss these issues with the Secretary of State for Transport.

At a meeting organised by the Haven Gateway Partnership, the case for investment was made to Patrick McLoughlin MP and the economic potential of the region highlighted.

I also discussed safety concerns with Patrick, explaining that the 12 mile stretch of single-carriageway between Braintree and Marks Tey is one of the ten most dangerous roads in England.  If elected in May, I will continue to campaign for capacity and safety improvements to the A120.
