New figures show that 1288 fewer people in Braintree are now claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance since 2010 - a 63% drop. There are now just 761 claimants a fall of 407 since January last year.
People are getting off benefits and into work across the country and here in Essex, in total a record 30.9 million people are now in work, up by 1.85 million since the last election. We can see this working locally with new jobs at businesses like Milbank Concrete Products Ltd, Wilkin & Sons Ltd and Alphasense.
The figures also show pay rising by 2.1% on the year, well ahead of inflation At 0.9%.
This is happening because Conservatives in government have taken action to fix the economy, backing businesses with lower jobs taxes to create more jobs, and fixing the welfare system so that work always pays.
